The FSEA Annual General Meeting was held on January 20, 2025. Below are the full minutes from the meeting.

Executive Introduction

Meeting called to order. Executive in attendance: Vice President – Evonne Cugliari, Chief Steward – Sue Rattray, Secretary – Jen Woodburn, Steward for Chef’s Hall – Tara McCauley.

Financials (Mike)

The association is in good standing. Unit 1 balance: $72,435. Unit 2 balance: $52,000. Union dues are withdrawn monthly to cover flowers for members (birth/bereavement), retirees’ $100 gift cards, and social events.

Given the healthy account balances, a proposal was made to pause dues collection until each account reaches $20,000 — enough to cover potential legal fees from grievances — at which point dues would resume.

Social (Sue)

The Christmas Party was a great success. The next event is the Guelph Gryphons hockey game on Saturday, January 25. There will be food by The Craft Kitchen, door prizes, and gift bags. The Gryphons are playing Carleton University. A registration table will be on the lower level — wristbands (not tickets) will be used.

Executive Nominations

No new nominations were received for the Executive Committee. All current serving members have volunteered to serve another 3-year term.

President’s Proposal — Executive Compensation (Mike)

To attract members to the executive committee and recognize current members’ contributions, a proposal was made to compensate executive members for time beyond the 4-hour monthly commitment — up to a maximum of 4 hours/month and 24 hours/year, with proof of work or course certificate required. The President’s role is not eligible for this incentive. All in attendance agreed.

University Support Staff Workload Study (Mike)

FSEA has been invited to participate in a workload study initiated by the OSSTF, involving unions and associations across multiple universities. Expected cost is approximately $5,000. Mike will confirm details before committing. Member input is welcome.

Regular Full-Time Jobs

The association will continue working with management to increase the number of regular full-time positions, which have declined since COVID.
